Navy wins big at Dr. Nihal Jinasena Memorial Cup Sailing Regatta
The Sri Lanka Navy sailing team made impressive performances at the Dr. Nihal Jinasena Memorial Cup Sailing Regatta which was held in the alluring waters of Kapparathota, Mirissa on 01 Feb 25.
The Sailing Regatta was participated by 70 sailors, both male and female, from renowned sailing clubs in the country including spirited sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy Sailing Pool, displaying brilliant competitiveness.
The first place in the GP 14 event was won by Leading Seaman KC De Soysa and Leading Engineering Mechanic TDS Perera. The second place of the event was secured by Leading Seaman AMJP Aththanayake and Leading Seaman ASK De Soyza. In addition, the third place was clinched by Leading Infantryman JHMPI Jayapadma and Able Seaman JSIK Senarathna.
Further, in the Enterprise event, the first place was won by Leading Seaman KSK De Silva and Able Seaman UGD Madhusanka. Its second place went to Lieutenant PSS Gomez and Leading Seaman AGP Asanka. Moreover, the third place in the event was secured by Leading Seaman LACM Gunathilake and Woman Leading Seaman MDM Subhashini. Extending the Navy’s winning streak, Chief Petty Officer PDDS Rajapaksha secured the third place in the ‘ILCA 6’ event. In the same vein, Leading Infantryman GPP Karunathna, Petty Officer UD Rajapaksha and Leading Seaman SPPN Kumara won the first three positions in the ‘ILCA 7’ event.
Additionally, Petty Officer WAS Weerathunga and Leading Seaman KPP Gunawardena secured the first and second places in the ‘Wind Surfing’, bringing much glory to the Navy.
