Inter - Command Badminton Championship – 2025 concludes in Welisara
The Inter-Command Badminton Championship - 2025 was held at the Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex in Welisara from 10th to 15th February 2025. The Western Naval Command emerged victorious in the men's category, while the Training Command claimed the women's championship. The finals of the tournament were graced by Director General Budget and Finance, Rear Admiral Manjula Dissanayake.
In the tournament, the Training Command secured the men's runner-up title, while the Northern Naval Command claimed the women's runner-up position. In the Men's Novice Division, Lieutenant Commander GIDBS Dharmaratne emerged as the champion, with Leading Seaman KMS Gunathilaka finishing as the runner-up. On the women's side, Woman Recruit TTO Wimalarathne took the top spot in the Novice Division, followed by Woman Able Seaman IR Madhuwanthi as the runner-up.
Commander KKR Ratnayake and Able Physical Training Instructor (PTI) DMRM Bandara clinched victory in the Open Men's Doubles, while Commander JAN De Silva and Sub Lieutenant HOT De Silva secured the runners-up position. In the Open Women's Doubles, Woman Leading PTI AGAC Wijerathne and Woman Recruit TTO Wimalarathne emerged as champions, with Woman Leading PTI GGS Damayanthi and Woman PTI WGNS Amarasinghe finishing as the runner-up.
At the tournament, Sub Lieutenant HOT De Silva clinched the title in the Open Men's Singles, with Able PTI DMRM Bandara securing the runner-up position. In the Open Women's Singles, Woman Leading PTI AGAC Wijeratne emerged victorious, while her opponent Woman Leading PTI GGS Damayanthi, took the runner-up spot.
In the Men's Doubles category for participants over 40 years of age, Commander KHKM Abeysuriya and Lieutenant Commander BMSP Bannaheka emerged victorious. The second-place finish went to Commander WACB Wickramarachchi and Chief Petty Officer TGSK Bandara. Meanwhile, in the Men's Singles category for the same age group, Lieutenant Commander BMSP Bannaheka claimed the championship title, with Chief Petty Officer TGSK Bandara taking the runner-up position.
In the Over-50 Men's Doubles, Captain TP Deegala and Commander DM Rathnapala emerged as champions, while Commander KM Dayananda and Lieutenant Commander KGSP Wijerathne took the runners-up spot. Meanwhile, in the Over-50 Men's Singles, Lieutenant Commander KGSP Wijerathne clinched the championship title, with Captain TP Deegala securing the runner-up position.
A group of naval personnel from Naval Commands were in attendance, enjoying the thrilling racket games.
