Navy clinches title at Intermediate Boxing Tournament – 2025
The Sri Lanka Navy secured a resounding victory at the Intermediate Boxing Tournament – 2025, organized by the Sri Lanka Boxing Association and held on 21 Aug 25 at the Royal-MAS Arena Indoor Boxing Stadium, Colombo.
The championship drew 22 prominent boxing teams from across the island. Representing the Navy, a strong contingent of 18 boxers competed in ten men’s and four women’s weight categories, delivering an outstanding performance.
Leading Infantryman KMGG Chathuranga, competing in the under-55kg category, was adjudged the Best Boxer of the Tournament, in addition to clinching a gold medal. Adding to the Navy’s triumph, Petty Officer PS Kumara (under-60kg), Leading Physical Training Instructor SMCS Samaranayake (under-75kg), Woman Writer I RMSS Ratnayake (under-60kg), and Woman Ordinary Seaman PHH Dhananja (under-70kg) also struck gold.
Further, Radio Electrical Mechanic MMD Kumara (under-90kg) and Woman Ordinary Seaman KH Lakshani (under-54kg) earned silver medals. Bronze medals were secured by Able Seaman BHDC De Silva (over-90kg), Able Infantryman BOOKIC Prabath (under-50kg), Electrical Mechanic NWS Kavinda (under-70kg), and Woman Stores Assistant I KMMJ Konara (under-54kg).
The Navy’s remarkable achievement at this tournament underscores the strength, discipline, and sporting excellence of its boxers, further enhancing the service’s reputation in the national sports arena.
