Eastern and Afloat Commands triumph at Inter-Command Hockey Championship 2026
The Inter-Command Hockey Championship 2026 of the Sri Lanka Navy concluded, showcasing exceptional sporting prowess and camaraderie at the hockey grounds of SLNS Lanka in Welisara. Held from 07 to 10 Mar 26, the tournament saw a spirited display of skill as athletes vied for the prestigious titles. In a series of gripping encounters, the Eastern Naval Command clinched the Men’s Championship, while the Afloat Command emerged victorious to secure the Women’s Championship.
The tournament featured a robust lineup of eight men's teams and eight women's teams representing Naval Commands. Highlighting individual excellence on the turf, Leading Physical Training Instructor MALS Perera of the Eastern Naval Command was adjudged the Best Player in the men’s category, while Woman Communicator SMGS Vitharana of the Afloat Command earned the title of Best Player in the women’s category.
The defensive lines also saw standout performances, with Able Seaman SMSMM Manchanayake from the Eastern Naval Command being named the Best Goal Keeper (Men). Meanwhile, Woman Ordinary Seaman SMGS Samaratunga of the Afloat Command was recognized as the Best Goal Keeper (Women).
