Training Command sweeps top honours at Inter-Command Athletics Championship 2026
The Sri Lanka Navy Inter-Command Athletics Championship 2026 reached a thrilling conclusion on 08 May 26, at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Diyagama, showcasing the exceptional sporting prowess of naval personnel. In a dominant display of athleticism, the Training Command emerged as the standout performer, clinching both the men’s and women’s championships.
The tournament saw spirited participation of athletes representing all Naval Commands, who competed intensely across a wide array of track and field events. Meanwhile, in the men’s category, the Eastern Naval Command finished as the runners-up. Demonstrating their versatile strength, the Southern Naval Command secured the women’s runners-up slot.
Individual excellence was also recognized, with Able Physical Training Instructor NMG Thathsara being awarded the Best Athlete (Men) and Women Ordinary Seaman CMI Chathuri earning the title of Best Athlete (Women).
The awards ceremony was graced by the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara, as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by a representative gathering of officers and sailors from across the Naval Commands.
Organized as an annual fixture in the Navy’s sporting calendar, this Inter-Command Athletics Championship serves as a vital platform to identify and nurture talented athletes within the service.
