Ex P 419 developed into floating damage control simulator
Having developed into a floating damage control platform, the ex P 419 craft, which had already been cast aside from operational service, was handed over for the training purposes of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla on 05th August 2020. The simple ceremony held in a bid to mark this occasion was presided over by Commander Eastern Naval Area.

Responding to request for assistance by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Center (MRCC) Colombo, Sri Lanka Navy initiated swift action to reach out to several multi day fishing trawlers and their crew members in distress at sea, in the past couple of days.

Navy helps avert flood threat in low-lying areas around Gin Ganga
Following the incessant downpour received over the past couple of days, the Wakwella and Dodamgoda bridges in Galle collected tree remains and debris underside, posing a flood threat in the area. Responding promptly to this adversity, the Navy last week was pressed into action to ease the possible flood situation, by removing waste collected under those bridges.

Commander of the Navy pays tribute to fallen war heroes
Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, after assumption of duties as the 24th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, made his mark of respect to fallen naval combatants, at a wreath - laying ceremony held at the Naval War Hero Monument in Welisara today (31th July 2020). The event has been organized to glorify the memory of naval war heroes who made supreme sacrifice during naval operations that helped eradicate terrorism from the motherland.

Navy apprehends 15 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in Eastern seas
Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular operations for the prevention of illegal fishing practices which adversely impact legitimate commercial fishers as well as marine ecosystem. During similar search operations conducted in Trincomalee, Kinniya, Mullaitivu and Nilaveli sea areas on 25th and 28th July 2020, the Navy managed to nab 15 persons engaged in illegal fishing and seize fishing gear belonging to them.

Giving priority to the veneration of sacred Buddhist religious places in Anuradhapura, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne made offerings to the Mirisawetiya Stupa on 25th July 2020. The Navy Commander was accompanied by Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, the spouse of Commander of the Navy and President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit as well as a group of senior naval officers.

Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, after assuming office as the 24th Commander of the Navy, paid homage at sacred Jayasri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, on 25th July 2020. The President of the NSVU as well as the beloved wife of Commander of the Navy, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne and a host of senior Naval officers were present on the occasion.
