Navy supports national programme to combat dengue

The Sri Lanka Navy has continued to support the national dengue prevention campaign aimed at reducing the spread of dengue and safeguarding public health

The initiative is jointly conducted by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police.

On 31 July 2026, marking the 27th day of the programme, 83 naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command joined Medical Officers of Health (MOH), Divisional Secretariat officials, Public Health Inspectors and members of the International Red Cross in carrying out inspection and awareness activities.

A total of 2,412 premises in Wattala, Ragama, Mahara, Borella, Panadura, Narahenpita, Kelaniya, Gampaha and Modara were inspected, resulting in legal action against 102 locations identified as mosquito breeding sites.

As part of the wider national dengue control campaign, the Sri Lanka Navy continues to conduct regular environmental inspection programmes across all Naval Commands as well.
