Commander of the Navy outlines key priorities in address to naval personnel

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, on virtual setting addressed the ship's company at the Navy Headquarters today (7 July 2026), following his assumption of command as the 27th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.

During his address, the Navy Commander outlined three (3) key priorities that will guide the Navy's future endeavours: fostering a highly professional Navy, advancing a responsible and technologically capable institution, and empowering the naval community.

Speaking on the importance of achieving these priorities, Vice Admiral Fernando underscored the values of loyalty to the service, professional competence and resilience in overcoming challenges. He encouraged all naval personnel to remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism while contributing to the continued progress of the Navy.

The Navy Chief also paid tribute to the immense sacrifices and dedicated service of generations of naval personnel and former Commanders of the Navy, acknowledging their invaluable contributions in shaping the institution into its present standing.

The address was webcast virtually to all Naval Commands and was viewed by officers, sailors and members of the civilian staff.
