Navy hikers secure top honours at Hiking Team Challenge – 2026

The Navy Adventure and Nature Sports Club emerged as the overall champions and runners-up at the Hiking Team Challenge 2026, held in the scenic Poonagala mountain range in from 24 to 26 July 2026.

The ‘Poseidon’ and ‘Sea Adventure’ teams, representing the Navy's Adventure and Nature Sports Unit, clinched the top two honours respectively.

Organised by Trekker Adventure Academy (Pvt) Ltd, the three-day competition brought together four teams; Poseidon, Sea Adventure, Air Warriorz and Highland Wolves to compete across demanding mountain trails featuring rugged terrain and challenging natural conditions.

Adding further prestige to the achievement, Lieutenant Commander Yown Sankalpana was recognised as the Best Navigator for his outstanding navigation skills and route planning throughout the event.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Commander Thilina Weerasinghe was awarded the Best Team Leader title in recognition of his exemplary leadership, coordination, and ability to inspire his team under demanding conditions.

The results reflected the high standards of professionalism, discipline, teamwork and leadership demonstrated by naval personnel in adventure sports, while highlighting their ability to operate effectively and overcome challenges in demanding environments.
