Navy rallies behind national drive to combat dengue

14 Jul 2026

The Navy has deployed personnel to support the national dengue prevention campaign aimed at curbing the spread of the disease in the Western Province.

Working alongside the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police, the Navy is throwing its weight behind the initiative, which operates under the theme “Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo.”

On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, the campaign completed its 10th consecutive day of operations. A contingent of 61 naval personnel from the Western Naval Command joined local Medical Officers of Health, Divisional Secretariat staff, and Public Health Inspectors to conduct community inspections.

During operations, teams inspected 1,832 locations across several areas, including Borella, Wattala, Kotte, Narahenpita, Modara, Mahara, Panadura, and Gampaha. Officials identified 54 active dengue breeding sites during these visits.

In addition to supporting the civil authorities, the Navy has also launched internal clean-up campaigns across Naval Commands.
