Navy supports National Dengue Control Programme

21 Jul 2026

The Navy continues to support the National Dengue Control Programme, conducted across the Western Province, as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health. The initiative, jointly organised by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit and the Environmental Protection Division of the Sri Lanka Police, aims to curb the spread of dengue while raising public awareness.

On 20 July 2026, marking the 15th day of the programme, 90 naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command joined Medical Officer of Health (MOH) officials, Divisional Secretariat staff, Public Health Inspectors and members of the International Red Cross in carrying out dengue prevention activities.

During the operation, 3,470 premises in Modara, Mattakkuliya, Borella, Narahenpita, Kelaniya, Mahara, Wattala, Gampaha, Ragama and Panadura were inspected. The inspections led to the identification of 61 potential mosquito breeding sites, which were subsequently addressed as part of the control measures.

In parallel with the national programme, the Navy continues to conduct environmental inspections across all Naval Commands as part of its internal dengue prevention efforts.
