SLNS Gajabahu arrives in Andaman and Nicobar Islands for BIMSTEC-2026 exercise

Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Gajabahu arrived at Port Blair in Sri Vijayapuram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on 29 October 2026, to participate in the inaugural BIMSTEC-2026 Maritime Security Exercise organized by the Indian Navy. The vessel received a ceremonial welcome by the Indian Navy in accordance with naval traditions upon its arrival.

The multi-lateral exercise, which commenced on 30 October, will run until 3 November across harbour and sea phases. Warships representing naval and coast guard forces from BIMSTEC member states, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand are taking part in the drills.

On the opening day of the exercise, Commanding Officers and personnel from the participating naval and coast guard ships were briefed on safety protocols and planned operational activities.
