Anti-Submarine Warfare in spotlight at exhibition ‘The Abyss’ at SLNS Nipuna

The Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) School of SLNS Nipuna launched a three-day exhibition and submarine simulation under the theme ‘The Abyss,’ running from 18 to 20 September 2026. The event was inaugurated by Rear Admiral HNS Perera, Commander Southern Naval Area.

Organised by sailors undergoing Phase III course of UC/UW, the exhibition was organized under the supervision of Captain Rasika Piyasena, Commandant SLNS Nipuna. The exhibition aims to sharpen naval personnel's expertise in tactical situations, ASW weapons/sensors, underwater sound identification and submarine operations.

A highlight of the event was the official opening of the Integrated Data Collection and Tracking system (IDCT), the only one of its kind in the Sri Lanka Navy, used for underwater echo detection training.
