Navy clears debris blocking Giriulla Pallegama Bridge

The Sri Lanka Navy cleared the blockage beneath the Pallegama Bridge over Ma Oya in Giriulla Today, 15 September 2026, restoring the normal flow of water.

Heavy rainfall in the area had washed down debris, including fallen logs and bamboo clusters, which became clogged under the bridge structures and obstructed the river's water flow.

A team of naval personnel comprising divers, deployed by the Western Naval Command carried out the clearance operation to remove the obstruction and ensured downstream of river water.
