Sri Lanka Navy mourns loss of Lieutenant Thilina Udayapriya
The Sri Lanka Navy announces with profound sorrow the passing of Lieutenant Thilina Udayapriya, who tragically perished in the line of duty during the naval craft (P 4447) incident off Angulana on 15th August 2026.
The Sri Lanka Navy extends its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and loved ones of the late officer, and stands alongside them in mourning the loss of a young officer whose life was devoted to the service of the nation. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, visited the bereaved family to pay his last respects and share in their grief, conveying the sympathies of the entire naval fraternity during this difficult time.
In recognition of his dedicated service, Lieutenant Udayapriya will be accorded full naval honours, dignity and ceremonial respect befitting an officer of the Sri Lanka Navy. Lieutenant Udayapriya joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 19th August 2020 belonging to the 63rd Intake of Officer Cadets, embarking on a career of service marked by dedication and commitment to the nation.
The last rites of late Lieutenant Thilina Udayapriya will be performed on 07th September 2026 at the General Cemetery, Werahera.
