75 senior and 60 junior sailors granted interest free loans

Sri Lanka Navy granted an interest free loan worth Rs. 500,000 each to 75 senior sailors and Rs. 200,000 each to 60 junior sailors for the first time today (21st September 2020). The occasion to hand over cheques to the beneficiaries was presided over by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters.

A sum of Rs. 49.5 million has been allocated by the Naval Benefit Foundation for this welfare initiative which was first mooted to recognize the contributions of long serving senior sailors. Incidentally, 3,324 senior sailors have been offered interest free loans till date. As a result of the extension of the benefit of this welfare provision for the junior sailors, 60 naval personnel from that rating received financial grants for the first time today. Meanwhile, the Navy is determined to grant this financial support to yet another 2,050 senior sailors and 50 junior sailors in times to come.
