Commander of the Navy makes sudden visit to Northern Naval Command

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, after being appointed as the 24th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, left for Northern Naval Command for a sudden visit on 26th September 2020.

Accordingly, Commander of the Navy made tours of inspection at Sri Lanka Navy Ship (SLNS) Uththara, Elara, Agbo, Gotaimbara, Kanchadewa and Welusumana as well as Coastal Observation Points manned by those bases, in the Northern Naval Command. Besides, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne took part in a couple of special events organized by the command as well.

Addressing a gathering of officers and sailors from all bases in the Northern Naval Command, at SLNS Uththara, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne stressed that they are to be very vigilant on their duties keeping the strategic environment in mind. He also underlined the importance of the solidification of the divisional system to maintain discipline among naval personnel, for smooth administrative function as well as running ship’s routine in accordance with time-honoured naval traditions and customs. While pointing out the necessity of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and appropriate body mass index, Commander of the Navy specially emphasized that stern disciplinary action would be taken against drug related offences. Expressing his gratitude to the Commander Northern Naval Area, Commanding Officers, Heads of Departments, all officers and sailors attached to the command for making a deliberate effort to keep their command a COVID-19 free zone, Commander of the Navy instructed them to follow COVID – 19 preventive measures further, sticking to the Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) compiled in a bid to continue the routine operations of the organization in an efficient manner.

Having reviewed the ongoing construction work of the new wardroom complex at SLNS Uththara, Commander of the Navy also called at SLNS Agbo, Elara, Gotaimbara, Kanchadewa and Welusumana for inspection. To add memories to his visit to the Northern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne was invited to join in tree plantation campaigns as well.

Thereupon, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne took time off to visit the ancient Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya and received the blessings of Chief Sangha Nayaka of Northern Province, Chief Incumbent of Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya, Preveenacharya, Dhammakiththi Sri, Most Venerable Navandagala Paduma Kiththi Tissa Thera. Reminding the long-standing relationship between the Navy and Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya, the Most Venerable Thera invoked blessings on Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel for successful execution of their entrusted duties.

Meanwhile, Commander of the Navy concluded the sudden visit to the Northern Naval Command on 27th September 2020, after inspecting the Naval Detachment of Nagathiwanthurei, a landmark of his naval career, which is now administered by SLNS Welusumana.
