Foundation stone laid for stupa to be built by Navy at Ethdalagala Aranya Senasana

The foundation stone laying ceremony for a stupa to be built at Ethdalagala Aranya Senasana in Meegalewa, Anuradhapura was held under the patronage of Commander North Central Naval Area on 23rd October 2020. The construction work of the stupa will be undertaken by Sri Lanka Navy.

Under the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, the Navy will enable manpower for the construction of this stupa to house the ashes of the Most Venerable Gnanadeepa Thero of Denmark who passed away, having resided for more than 50 years at the Meegalewa Ethdalagala Aranya Senasana. Marking the beginning of this great deed, Commander North Central Naval Area today laid the foundation stone for the Stupa with the blessings of the Venerable Maha Sangha.

The event was also attended by monks from the Ethdalagala Aranya Senasana, Commanding Officer Sri Lanka Navy Ship ‘Pandukabaya’, Training Captain Sri Lanka Navy Ship ‘Shiksha’ and a group of naval personnel from the Command Civil Engineering Department.
