Defence Secretary and Commander of the Navy visit ‘Sandahiru Seya’ and ‘Mihindu Maha Seya’

Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, along with Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, visited ‘Sandahiru Seya’ in Anuradhapura and ‘Mihindu Maha Seya’ in Mihinthale to inspect the on-going construction and renovation work of respective stupas on 06th March 2021.

Reviewing the work in progress of ‘Sandahiru Seya’, constructed by tri forces and Civil Defence Force in the sacred city of Anuradhapura, the Defence Secretary instructed to step up its construction work in order to see its completion by November this year. Further, the Defence Secretary and Commander of the Navy formally inaugurate the construction of Square Chamber (Hatharas Kotuwa) and deposited treasures beneath the proposed gateway (Wahalkada) of Sandahiru Seya.

Further, the refurbishment at the historic Mihintale Rajamaha Vihara premises in Anuradhapura commenced on 24th October 2020 under the patronage of His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the restoration of ‘Mihindu Maha Seya’ was entrusted with the Sri Lanka Navy. In such backdrop, the renovation work of ‘Mihindu Maha Seya’ was too set about under the auspices of the Defence Secretary and Commander of the Navy, amidst the blessings of the members of Maha Sangha.

Led by Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara Chief Prelate Ven. Walawahengunawewe Dharmaratna Thero, the Defence Secretary, Commander of the Navy and entourage also took time off to inspect rest of the construction sites at Mihinthalaya during this visit.

Director General of Civil Defence Force, Commander Security Forces Wanni, Commander North Central Naval Area and a group of senior officers from tri-forces were present on these occasions.
