Navy lends helping hand for renovation of Roman Catholic Primary School in Niripola, Hanwella

The children’s playground and several other renovated facilities at Roman Catholic Primary School in Niripola, Hanwella were declared open for the benefit of school children on 29th March 2021. Dr. Miran Salgado along with his family members in the United States of America extended financial assistance for the school renovation which was undertaken by the Navy as one of its social responsibility initiatives.

Accordingly, the Navy enabled manpower for the preparation of the children’s playground and renovation of water distributing pipelines, first aid room and several other facilities of the school. Meanwhile, these facilities were opened under the auspices of Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana and Mr. Ranjith Fernando, a relative of Dr. Salgado. The availability of these facilities would enable the school to meet some of the basic needs of its children.

The event was organized following the COVID-19 protocols in force to prevent the spread of the pandemic and the occasion was also attended by Sister Superior of Niripola Boys Town, Rev. Sister Mary Cicilia Divisional Education Director of Seethawaka, Mrs. Shirani Dissanayake, Principal of the school, Mrs. JAAK Jayasooriya, staff members and naval personnel involved in this project.
