Commander of the Navy opens ‘Brahmanawatte Dhammakiththi Tissa Maha Nahimi Memorial Pilgrimage Hall’ at Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya

The three-storied ‘Brahmanawatte Dhammakiththi Tissa Maha Nahimi Memorial Pilgrimage Hall’, built utilizing manpower made available by the Navy at Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya, was declared open under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne today (03rd April 2021).

The Navy enabled manpower for the construction of the memorial pilgrimage hall which was built on the occasion of the 18th death anniversary Pinkama of late Ven. Brahmanawatte Dhammakiththi Tissa Maha Nahimi. The new pilgrimage hall will provide convenient accommodation for the members of Maha Sangha and devotees who visit the Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya for veneration. Subsequent to the opening, Commander of the Navy paid homage to the ancient Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya and took part in the meritorious deed of offering mid-day alms for 20 bhikkhus as well.

On the sidelines, the Navy conducted a community service initiative in which lunch was offered to the community of the Nainativu Island. Further the Chief Incumbent of Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya and Chief Sanghanayake for Northern Province, Most Ven. Nawadagala Padumakitti Tissa Thero awarded scholarships to talented school children in Nainativu. The event was graced by Commander of the Navy and President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne.

Members of Maha Sangha including the Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Most Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesuriya, Deputy Area Commander, Commodore JP Premerathna, officer and sailors from the Naval Headquarters and Northern Naval Command were present on these occasions.
