Financial assistance for funeral of retired naval personnel introduced

Sri Lanka Navy introduced a programme to provide a funeral assistance worth Rs. 100,000, to the next of kin of retired naval personnel at their funeral. The initiative was launched by the Navy, with a view to further expand the welfare provisions catered to the retired naval personnel who have served in the Regular and Volunteer Forces of Sri Lanka Navy.

Accordingly, retired officers who have served for 20 years or more in regular or volunteer forces, retired lady officers who have served for 15 years or more in regular or volunteer forces, retired senior and junior sailors who have served for 22 or more years in regular/volunteer forces and those were enlisted under Volunteer Special Scheme with similar years of service, retired senior and junior woman sailors who have served for 15 or more years in regular/volunteer forces and those were enlisted under Volunteer Special Scheme with similar years of service, naval personnel who were wounded in action and sent on retirement due to disabilities and naval personnel who went on retirement on medical grounds due to accidents while on duty (Attributable to duty) will be entitled to this funeral assistance.

The legally married wife/ husband or next of kin of the deceased retired naval person may obtain this funeral assistance, after informing the demise to the Directorate of Naval Welfare, on 0117192525/ 0117192512 and submitting the certificate of death or other documents certifying identity, within 03 months of the funeral.

In case of inability to submit the required documents within 03 months due to unavoidable circumstances, the possibility of providing this funeral assistance will be considered, subject to the special approval of the Commander of the Navy, once the matter being informed to the Directorate of Naval Welfare.
