Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana honoured in farewell salute

Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana today (19th May 2021) relinquished naval duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years.

Meanwhile, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and the Board of Management extended warm wishes to Rear Admiral Sudarshana who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, the retiring senior officer was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions before the customary naval send-off ceremony saw fellow naval officers making their formal farewells to Rear Admiral Sudarshana who took leave from the premises in a motorcade.

Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana joined Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 14th intake in the year 1986. The senior officer who has commanded a number of ships and establishments in the Navy has also held a number of significant appointments such as; Director Naval Personnel, Provost Marshal, Director Sports and Naval Officer in Charge Welisara, Naval Assistant to Commander of the Navy, Director Naval Research Wing, Deputy Area Commander Northern and Eastern Naval Areas, Director General Personnel, Defence Adviser at the Embassy of Sri Lankan in Washington, D.C., Commander Western Naval Area and Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy during his illustrious naval career.
