Navy-refurbished facilities of Pansalgodella Primary School vested with students

The navy-refurbished classroom and library buildings as well as new assembly hall of Pansalgodella Primary School in Kantale, Trincomalee were vested with the students in a ceremony presided over by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the attendance of President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne on 08th July 2021.

Coinciding with its 70th anniversary, Sri Lanka Navy going by an idea mooted by Commander of the Navy launched a Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) project to improve facilities at selected underprivileged schools across the country within year 2021. Launched with the intention of creating more conducive environment for the education of school children, the initiative was set in motion in each naval command commencing from 19th April 2021.

Under this project, the partly-constructed classroom and library buildings as well as a newly constructed assembly hall of Pansalgodella Primary School in Kantale were expeditiously completed by the Eastern Naval Command and they were handed over for the benefit of the students today, amidst the blessings of the members of Maha Sangha. Meanwhile, the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit provided a stock of school supplies for the group of children of the school on this occasion.

Addressing at the event, Zonal Director of Education Kantale, Mr. EGPI Dharmathilake particularly appreciated the Navy's commitment to the development of schools with a special attention that is not seen in school development projects by other external parties. Appreciative of this magnanimous gesture, the school children, parents and staff members of Pansalgodella Primary School expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Commander of the Navy and the entire Navy for fulfilling one of their long-felt needs.

Meanwhile, a number of other underprivileged schools across the country are being developed as part of this NSR project, where all naval personnel are voluntarily contributing from their monthly salaries for the realization of the project. The projects which are backed by manpower and expertise of the Sri Lanka Navy are scheduled to be completed in this year, to be vested with the school children who lack those facilities.

The event was organized adhering to COVID-19 protocols in effect for the prevention of pandemic transmission and it was attended by the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, Naval Assistant to Commander of the Navy and Supervising Officer of Navy School Development Project, Commodore Sujeeva Senaviratne, Principal of the school, Mr. RRMN Rajapaksha, and a limited number of senior officers and sailors from the Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command as well as a small group of teachers and students.
