Children of Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya delighted in school facilities improved by Navy

The opening of newly constructed classroom building, laboratory and renovated computer laboratory at Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya in Puttalam District, was held under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit today (08th August 2021). Sri Lanka Navy made its contribution to the construction and renovation of the above facilities to create a better learning environment for the school children.

Going by the concept of developing schools with less facilities in each Naval Command, in parallel with the 70th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, this particular Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) Project was set in motion at Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya by Northwestern Naval Command. Accordingly, on 19th April 2021, the Navy commenced the construction of a building with 03 new classrooms to replace the ones with fewer facilities as well as putting up a laboratory building and renovation of the computer laboratory for the benefit of the students.

The construction and renovation work at the school was brought to expeditious completion largely due to the skilled labour and industrial expertise of the men from Northwestern Naval Command and members of the naval family made their generous contribution from their monthly salaries for this great deed. Incidentally, the children of Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya could now on reap the benefits of these navy-improved facilities bestowed on them by Commander of the Navy today. In the meantime, the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit also provided several school supplies for a group of children of the school on this occasion.

Besides, the Principal, staff and students of Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya, as well as the parents, heaped praised on Commander of the Navy and entire naval family for their invaluable contribution in developing facilities and infrastructure of the school, to create a better teaching-learning environment for the students to pursue their education.

Similarly, the school facilities developed by the Eastern and Northern Naval Commands have already been vested in the students under this School Development NSR project, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy. Meanwhile, the Navy is determined to hand over a number of other schools of which construction and renovation is currently being done in full swing, in rest of the Naval Commands.

The proceedings of the opening was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols in force for the prevention of the spread of the pandemic. Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral KJ Kularathna, Naval Assistant to Commander of the Navy and Supervising Officer of Navy School Development Project, Rear Admiral Sujeeva Senaviratne, the Principal of the school, Mrs. AR Renuka, staff and a limited number of the school children, as well as a small group of naval personnel, were present on this occasion.
