Navy pitches in with beach cleaning programme

Sri Lanka Navy joined hands with Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) and Galle Municipal Council to conduct a beach cleaning programme at the Dadalla beach, Galle on 12th August 2021.

The Navy regularly contributes to beach clean-up programmes along the coastal belt to reduce the accumulation of waste, including plastic and polythene. This beach cleaning programme that worked off as a coordinated effort of the MEPA, Galle Municipal Council and naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command, restored the attractiveness of Dadalla beach, with the removal of waste scattering along the beach about 02km.

The programme was conducted adhering to COVID-19 protocols in effect due to pandemic concerns. Meanwhile, the Navy remains standby at all times to render its assistance for this nature of programmes, with its resolve to conserve the coastal ecosystem.
