Navy receives three-storeyed house to be used as COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centre

The Chairman of Crown Royal Holdings (Pvt) Ltd Mr. Ajit Kangara Arachchi handed over a complete three-storeyed house to Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, to be used as a COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centre of Sri Lanka Navy. Mr. Ajit Kangara Arachchi, the owner of this real estate, is a former Lieutenant Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. The simple function to handover this facility was held in Aggona, Thalangama on 23rd August 2021.

Mr. Ajit Kangara Arachchi joined the Navy in 1978 as an Officer Cadet of the 7th Intake and retired from naval service as a Lieutenant Commander. After leaving the Navy, he started Crown Royal Holdings (Pvt) Ltd and is currently a renowned businessman and the Chairman of a number of businesses ventures including security, shipping and advertising services.

Sri Lanka Navy is making a significant contribution to the Government's efforts to develop infrastructure required for COVID-19 treatment, by setting up Intermediate Care Centres, developing infrastructure in hospitals and establishing special treatment units across the country. In appreciative of the praiseworthy role played by the Navy and numerous tasks they undertake even amidst the pandemic setting, this three-storeyed house was handed over to the Navy, to be used as a COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centre dedicated to naval personnel. Further, this Intermediate Care Centre-to-be will facilitate simultaneous treatment for a number of personnel at one go.

Humbled by the compassion and generosity of Mr. Ajit Kangara Arachchi, being a former member of the naval family, to hand over his highly-valued property as an Intermediate Care Centre for Covid-19 treatment under Sri Lanka Navy, Commander of the Navy extended his heartfelt gratitude to him for this generous gesture.

The event was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols to prevent the transmission of the pandemic. Commander Western Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva, Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area, Commodore Suresh De Silva and a limited group of officers were present on this occasion.
