Navy installs another RO plant for community use at Bakmeegahawatta, Mahawa
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne joined an occasion to open a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant built by the Navy in the village of Bakmeegahawatta, Mahawa, on10th October 2021.
Sri Lanka Navy is engaged in this Naval Social Responsibility initiative, joining hands with the national effort to eradicate kidney disease from Sri Lanka. The latest facility is the 875th RO plant installed by the Sri Lanka Navy, having commenced its installation process on 26th August 2021. As a result of the initiatives of the Ministry of Health and sponsorship made by Mr. Dhananjaya Bandara, the proprietor of DB Ceylon, coordinated by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, the new unit was made available in a short period of time. Besides, the manpower and industrial expertise of the Navy had also been instrumental for the expeditious completion of this project. Meanwhile, this RO plant will enable 975 families in 03 Grama Niladhari Divisions in Bakmeegahawatta to access their safe drinking water needs here on.
The opening was held in accordance with COVID-19 protocols in force to prevent the pandemic transmission. Mr. Dhananjaya Bandara, the proprietor of DB Ceylon, his mother Mrs. Rathna Wijesinghe, Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularathne, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Northwestern Naval Command and a group of residents were also present on this occasion.
