Poppy flower pinned on Commander of the Navy to commemorate Remembrance Day

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA), Major General (Retd) Upul Perera pinned a poppy flower on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (28th October 2021). To coincide with the Remembrance Day that recollects the memories of fallen War Heroes in the month of November, the poppy flower campaign is launched.

The poppy flower campaign was originally adopted to honour the War Heroes who sacrificed their lives during World War I and II. Today the movement signifies the supreme sacrifices made by the heroic military personnel in the defence of the Motherland with true spirit of patriotism. All proceeds from poppy sales are channeled for the welfare of the retired and disabled war veterans.

The event was also attended by a group of SLESA members.
