Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service at St. Lucia’s Cathedral invokes blessings on 71st Navy anniversary

To coincide with the series of religious events held in view of the 71st anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Navy Christian Council organized a Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service at St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Colombo on 23rd November 2021. The Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service conducted by Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith and clergies was presided by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

Commencing the religious segment held in parallel with the Navy's anniversary celebration, the ‘Kanchuka Puja’ and Naval Flag Blessing events were held at Ruwanweli Seya and sacred Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura on 11th and 12th November 2021. During the Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service held at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, blessings were invoked on fallen and disabled naval war heroes for their sacrifices in the name of Motherland, naval personnel both serving and retired as well as their family members.

The proceedings of the event were organized adhering to COVID-19 protocols due to pandemic concerns. President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, Area Commanders, Executive Committee members of the NSVU, Director Generals, President Navy Christian Council, Commodore Prasantha Anthony, a group of officers attached to the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command attended this occasion.
