Navy-sponsored RO plant declared open in Polpithigama on 71st Navy Day

In parallel with its 71st anniversary, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant fully sponsored by the Sri Lanka Navy, was declared open at Thelambiyawa Primary School which belongs to the Polpithigama Divisional Secretariat, Kurunegala on 09th December 2021. The opening of the facility was held under the patronage of Deputy Area Commander North Western Naval Area, Commodore Mahaendra Weerarathna.

As part of yet another Naval Social Responsibility initiative to coincide with the 71st anniversary of the Navy, this RO plant was set up following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. The construction work of the unit, the 887th of its kind, commenced 27th November 2021, with the initiatives of the Ministry of Health. Sri Lanka Navy enabled funds and its skilled manpower and industrial expertise for this community-oriented development task. The RO plant will fulfil the safe drinking water requirement of students of the Thelambiyawa Primary School and residents in surrounding villages.

The opening was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols to prevent possibilities of the transmission of the pandemic. Officials of Polpithigama Divisional Secretariat, teaching staff of Thelambiyawa Primary School, naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command and a limited number of residents in the area were present on this occasion.
