Navy takes part in beach cleaning programme in Galle

The Southern Naval Command organized a cleaning programme in Galle beach area, on 21st January 2022.

The Navy regularly contributes to beach clean-up programmes to prevent plastic and polythene waste, from entering the ocean. In the recent such endeavour, naval personnel of SLNS Dakshina and Nipuna in the Southern Naval Command with the assistance of civilians in the area carried out this beach cleaning drive. The effort restored the attractiveness of the beach, with the removal of plastic and polythene waste collected at beach areas of Dewata, Galle fishery harbour, Galle fort, Dadella and Gintota estuary.

The programme was carried out adhering to COVID-19 protocols due to pandemic concerns. The Navy is quite prepared to lend its helping hand to similar programmes, concerned to reduce the effects of pollution on oceans.
