Fast Attack Craft P 494 launched at Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee after major refit

The launching of Fast Attack Craft P 494 for service, after a major refit, was held at No. 3 Slipway in Naval Dockyard-Trincomalee on 21st January 2022. The event was presided by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias.

P 494 was built by Colombo Dockyard PLC and taken over to Sri Lanka Navy in 1997. She served in the 4th Fast Attack Craft Flotilla of Sri Lanka Navy for more than 22 years. At the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, the Command Engineering Department (E) undertook the major refit which commenced in October 2019 and completed in January 2022. The major refit included shell plate renewal, internal frame renewal, deck plate renewal and major overhauling of both main engines, generators, gear boxes and upgrade the craft with newly designed naval propulsion system and steering control system. Marine Engineering Department (E), Hull Engineering Department (E) and Electrical and Electronic Department (E) made a praiseworthy contribution for the completion of the project.

Commodore Superintendent Dockyard, Commodore Wasantha Kandawinna, Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Damian Fernando, Commanding Officer 4th Fast Attack Craft Flotilla Commodore Rajapriya Serasinghe and a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command were present on this occasion.
