Chanting of 'Jaya Pirith' at BMICH invokes blessings on nation

Chanting of 'Jaya Pirith' that got underway at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on 26th January 2022 came to an end with the offering of Alms to the members of Maha Sangha this morning (27th January). The meritorious deeds commenced to invoke blessings on the country, its people, war veterans and with a view to dispersing the pandemic fear from the country.

This Jaya Pirith chanting by 1000 Buddhists monks has been held annually since 2008 according to a notion of His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Under his directives and guidance of Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, this event was organized by the Ministry of Defence with the assistance of tri-services.

The spiritual occasion was presided by His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa with the First Lady Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa. The event which was organized adhering to COVID-19 protocols was also attended by distinguished invitees including Ministers and Members of Parliament.

Further, Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, senior officers from tri-services, Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Chandima Ulugetenne, President, Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Charmini Pathirana and Seva Vanitha members of tri-services were also present on this occasion.

Accordingly, the meritorious events which were held invoking blessings on the nation, drew to a close on a spiritual note.
