CISM Day Run -2022 flagged off in Colombo

The International Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run was flagged off under the patronage of Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne and with the attendance of Tri-Service Commanders in Colombo today (20th February 2022).

Established on 18th February 1948 in France, the International Military Sports Council (CISM) is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world operating with its motto ‘Friendship through Sports’. Endorsing friendship amongst servicemen, CISM is the worldwide international military sports organization devoted to bringing together armed forces personnel from 140 member countries for sporting events.

The event, organized by Sri Lanka Air Force this year, kicked off at the Rifle Green Ground, Colombo and the participants jogged about 04km finishing at the Air Force Headquarters. On completion of the run, the participants were presented certificates by Defence Secretary and Tri-Service Commanders.

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva, a group of tri-service personnel including several wheel-chair bound war heroes also took part in this year’s CISM Day Run.
