Commander of the Navy joins celebration of 78th Anniversary of SLESA

The 78th Anniversary celebration of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) was marked with the graceful presence of Defence Secretary, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) on 04th September 2022. The impressive occasion held at Attidiya Eagles' Lakeside Banquet and Convention Hall was attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

Established in 1944, the SLESA has offered membership to over 45,000 tri-service personnel in 48 associations of armed forces. Addressing the august gathering, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) warm-heartedly recalled the memories of fallen war veterans and paid his gratitude to the Ex-Servicemen who rendered noble duty for the nation.

The event also saw the Defence Secretary awarding Honorary Service Medals to several SLESA veterans, where Commander of the Navy also presented Life Membership to a group of SLESA veterans.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, former tri-service Commanders, Military Liaison Officer of the Defence Ministry Major General Dinesh Nanayakkara, Secretary General of SLESA Lieutenant Colonel Ajith Siyambalapitiya (Retd), SLESA members and distinguished invitees were also present on this occasion.
