Newly constructed ‘Marine Pier’ declared open in Sampoor
Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne declared open a newly constructed jetty (Marine Pier) at SLNS Vidura on 26th September 2022. The new facility was put up with a view to expand berthing facilities for small craft which are often deployed in the sea area of Trincomalee South.
The construction of this jetty commenced in July this year as per the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and under the supervision of Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne. The prime motive of the construction of this facility was to expand berthing facilities for small craft patrolling in the sea area of Trincomalee South and for those craft used for Sri Lanka Navy Marine training.
Accordingly, the new facility which was made possible in short period of time utilizing the able manpower and industrial expertise of the Navy and it will help serve above operational and training purposes in an effective manner hereafter.
Senior officers of the Eastern Naval Command and a group of officers and sailors of SLNS Vidura were also present on this occasion.
