College of Military Engineering and Technology inaugurated with a glamorous ceremony

The inauguration ceremony of the College of Military Engineering and Technology Sri Lanka (CMETSL) was held on 13th October 2022 at Eagle’s Lake Side, Aththidiya. The ceremony which was graced by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the invitation of the first President of CMETSL and Director General Engineering of Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Ravi Ranasinghe.

The key objective of this organization is to facilitate / promote coordination and cooperation amongst engineers of Armed Forces in Sri Lanka in the fields of technology, knowledge and resource sharing to have synergised output. It is operated with the counsel Chief of Defence Staff and Tri-Service Commanders, who are patrons of the organization. In the inaugural assembly held on 09th September 2022 at Naval Headquarters, Director General Engineering of Sri Lanka Navy, Dr. Rear Admiral Ravi Ranasinghe, USP, psc, DBA (USA), MBA (MOT), BTech (Mech), FIMarEst, FIE(SL), FIE (Ind), CEng (UK), CEng (SL), CEng (India), Dip in (S & DS), Dip in (MM), was elected as the first President of the CMETS, being the most qualified Engineering Officer among the Tri-Services at present. In addition, Sri Lanka Navy possesses 779 highly qualified Engineers and IT professionals, and among them 38 are Chartered Engineers and the majority is members of the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka.

At the outset, the President of the CMETSL welcomed the Chief Guest, Tri-Service Commanders and all distinguished invitees for the inauguration ceremony of CMETSL. In his address, Rear Admiral Ravi Ranasinghe expressed that the CMETSL was established to be amongst the other similar engineering institutions in the world to set standards of professional practice in Military Engineering and to utilize them effectively for the sustainable development and National Security of the country.

Professor Kapila Perera also addressed the forum as Keynote Speaker and expressed views on the future collaboration of military towards nation building and utilization of military aids towards public and synergizing of civil industry into this intended mechanism.

The Chief Guest - Secretary to the Ministry of Defence also highlighted his expectation of this college to be the premier Combat Engineer Institution in Sri Lanka with international recognition, facilitating the professional growth of Tri Service officers and men in the field of Combat Engineering to meet all current and future Combat Engineering requirements of the Sri Lanka’s Armed Forces. He also launched the CMETSL website on this occasion.

Distinguished invitees, senior officers and technical officers from tri-services, and civilian dignitaries also participated in the event.
