Commander of the Navy felicitates Navy medalists for making country proud at World Carrom Championship

Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando and Women Able Seaman Joseph Roshita who won silver and bronze medals at the 08th World Carrom Championship 2022 called on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (28th November 2022). During the brief interaction, Commander of the Navy admired their achievement and awarded cash incentives to both players in appreciation of their effort which delivered laurels to the country.

The 08th World Carrom Championship 2022, organized by the International Carrom Federation (ICF), was held in Langkawi, Malaysia from 03rd to 07th October. The championship was participated by ace Carrom players from 18 countries. Showcasing striking performances in the tournament, the team of Sri Lanka won the runner up title in men’s event and the second runner up slots in men’s double and women’s team event. Accordingly, Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando won a silver and bronze medals. Meanwhile, Women Able Seaman Joseph Roshita also secured a bronze medal. In addition, Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando also won the trophy for the ‘Highest Number of Slams’ (11).

Congratulating the two players for their significant achievement, Commander of the Navy presented cash incentives to Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando (Rs. 250,000) and Women Able Seaman Joseph Roshita (Rs. 100,000) and encouraged them to bring much more credit to the Navy and the country in the future.

Director General Services, Rear Admiral Nevil Ubayasiri and Director Sports Commodore Roshan Athukorala were also present on this occasion.
