Navy’s latest driving simulator in Welisara: A safe space to learn and improve driving skills

Offering a realistic and safe training experience to the Transport Assistants of the Sri Lanka Navy, a new driving simulator was established at the Naval Driver Training School in Welisara. Meanwhile, the new facility was declared open by the Director General Engineering, Rear Admiral Ravi Ranasinghe on 27th January 2023.

Going by the policy – frugal use of public funds, of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera this new facility was made available at the Naval Driving Training School in Welisara. The project was carried out under careful supervision of the Director General Engineering, to provide the Transport Assistants the opportunity to improve their driving skills in a safe and controlled environment.

The additional practical training required for the national professional qualification courses related to light and heavy vehicle driver training is to be provided through this driving simulator, and the Sri Lanka Navy is expected to reduce the annual fuel cost for training activities by about 30%.

The opening was also attended by Director General Training, Rear Admiral Mahinda Mahawatta, Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva and a group of officers and sailors attached to the Western Naval Command.
