SLNS Sindurala adjudged the Best Ship in 2022

The Sri Lanka Navy annually organizes the Best Ship competition to determine the best fleet units in its possession. Thus, SLNS Sindurala, SLNS Mihikatha and P 414 were named as the ace performers in the competition. Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera on 13th February 2022 presented the plaques to the winners on board SLNS Sayurala, in recognition of their capabilities and overall performance.

Every year, the Navy organizes this competition to adjudge the best craft, minor vessel and major vessel in its fleet. In the competition, the ships' crews were put to the test to determine their naval knowledge, skills in rigging and Rules Of the Road at sea, points obtained in Operational Sea Training evaluations and inter-ship sports encounters, as well as other aspects such as the number of naval exercises taken part and naval patrols made by the units were also taken into consideration.

Having seen a tough competition, the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet announced the winners, where SLNS Sindurala was adjudged the Best Ship (Major) in the year 2022. In addition SLNS Mihikatha was selected as the Best Ship in the minor category and the Fast Attack Craft P 414 became the Best Craft of the year. Accordingly, respective Commanding Officers and Officer in Command of the winning ships and craft received the winners plaques from Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera on 13th February.

Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters, Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva, Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Pujitha Vithana, Commodore Sea Training Commodore Nimal Ranasinghe and a group of officers and sailors were also present on this occasion.
