A discussion on Marine Disaster Response Process held in Navy Headquarters

A special discussion on the role of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo and the contingency plan for maritime disasters was held at the Navy Headquarters on 06th September 2023. The discussion which was presided by the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake was also attended by a group of representatives from Marine Environment Protection Authority and the European Union Mission in Sri Lanka.

As part of a special round of dialogue to coordinate the stakeholders in refining the contingency plan for maritime disasters in the country, this series of discussions will be held from 04th to 15th September. It will be held in coordination with the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) and Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). Meanwhile, the MEPA and UCPM representatives also visited MRCC Colombo on the sidelines of the discussion.

In addition, Director Naval Operations, Commodore Aruna Weerasinghe made the representatives aware of the role of MRCC Colombo and response in an oil spill contingency.
