A sailor begins epic 580km trek from Poonewa, aiming to break Sri Lanka record

In a remarkable display of determination and endurance, the Sri Lanka Navy’s Leading Engineering Mechanic RPSK Siriwardana today 12th January 2024 began a challenging 580-kilometer walk from Poonewa, with the ambitious goal of establishing a new national record.

Starting today, he aims to cover a distance of 580 kilometers within the next 8 days, setting a new Sri Lanka record with an impressive daily walking average of 72.5 kilometers.

Starting from SLNS Pandukabhaya in Poonewa, Leading Engineering Mechanic RPSK Siriwardana will arrive at the Independence Square, via the Anuradhapura – Puttalam route. Commencing the return journey from the Independence Square, he will walk through Kadawatha, Warakapola, Polgahawela, Kurunegala, Dambulla, Mihinthale to Poonewa and complete the epic walk at SLNS Pandukabhaya.
