Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Chandana Rathnayake

The Sri Lanka Navy today (24th January 2024) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Chandana Rathnayake who relinquished his duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years in the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management, extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Chandana Rathnayake was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Chandana Rathnayake joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 06th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1988 and held a wide range of logistics appointments during his illustrious naval career. Among some of the key appointments he held; Deputy Director (Welfare Project), Deputy Director Naval Logistics and Deputy Director (Local Procurement), Deputy Director (Special Project), Captain Logistics Department (East), Senior Course Coordinator Long Logistics Management Course, Deputy Director Naval Victualing and Clothing and Deputy Director Foreign Procurement, Director Naval Victualing and Clothing, Commodore Superintendent Logistics (North), Director Naval Pay and Pension, Director General (Budget and Finance) and Director General Logistics stood prominent.
