HMS SPEY of the Royal Navy, which arrived in Sri Lanka on 28th January 2024, departed the island today (31st January) on successful completion of her formal visit. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship in accordance with naval traditions at the port of Colombo.

Upon leaving, HMS SPEY engaged in a successful Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with SLNS Samudura. The PASSEX involved training exercises in communication and tactical maneuvering, concluding with the traditional cheer ship salute.

The Commanding Officer of the ship, Commander Paul Caddy called on Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Saman Perera at the Western Naval Command Headquarters and Director General Operations at the Navy Headquarters on 29th January. Meanwhile, members of the Sri Lanka Navy had the opportunity to visit HMS SPEY at the port of Colombo.

Port calls made by foreign naval ships play a crucial role in fostering collaboration among naval forces. Additionally, these visits facilitate naval exercises and training activities, allowing the exchange of knowledge and information about their unique maritime environments. Also, this exchange can be particularly beneficial in addressing shared maritime challenges.
