Disabled naval war veterans receive electric wheelchair and prosthetic legs

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera on 22nd March 2024 handed over prosthetic legs and an electric wheelchair to another 03 naval war veterans, who lost their limbs during the humanitarian operation. The generous gesture came into being at the Oyamaduwa Officer Holiday Bungalow, Anuradhapura as part of the programme of providing prosthetic legs to disabled naval war veterans.

The war heroes have made significant sacrifices to protect the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, ending nearly three decades of terrorism. Their sacrifices, including the loss of lives and disabilities suffered, were crucial in successfully ending terrorism once and for all. The Ranaviru Seva Authority has implemented a programme to provide prosthetic legs to war heroes who have lost their legs during the humanitarian operation.

In the initial phase of this programme aimed at providing prosthetic legs to naval personnel who have lost their legs, the Commander of the Navy oversaw the presentation of these prosthetic limbs and an electric wheelchair. The initiative was made possible through contributions from the Navy’s Welfare Directorate and Naval Social Responsibility Fund.

The occasion was also attended by the Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Naleen Navarathna and a group of senior and junior officers.
