New six-storeyed building of SLNS Ruhuna declared open

To enhance the facilities at SLNS Ruhuna, a newly constructed six-storeyed building was declared open today (07th July 2024) by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

To address the need for expanded administrative and welfare facilities at SLNS Ruhuna, construction of the new building began in 2019, with industrial support from the Civil Engineering Department of the Southern Naval Command. The new six-storeyed building was inaugurated today with the blessings of Ven. Maha Sangha. During the ceremony, the Commander of the Navy also recognized and commended all naval personnel who contributed to its construction.

The six-storeyed building, which can accommodate approximately 240 junior sailors, will soon feature new facilities at SLNS Ruhuna, including an operations room, main signal office, sick bay, general mess, main galley, main stores, and an electrical and electronic workshop.

Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe, Commander Southern Naval Area designate, Rear Admiral Chandima Silva, Naval Assistant to the Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Kosala Warnakulasooriya, Deputy Area Commander Southern Naval Area, Commodore Indika Gunawardena, Acting Director General Civil Engineering Commodore Ravi Gunasinghe and a group of officers and sailors from the command were also present on this occasion.
