Navy recognizes RP Saman Kumara Siriwardana's world record accomplishment with commendation

The Sri Lanka Navy’s Leading Engineering Mechanic RP Saman Kumara Siriwardana on 19th January 2024 set a new world record completing a challenging 586.1-kilometer walk. The epic walk encompassed a journey from Poonewa to the Independence Square, Colombo and back to Poonewa. The sailor met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters today (09th July 2024), presenting the certificate and the trophy for the world record. Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera awarded him a Letter of Commendation, appreciative of his world record accomplishment.

Demonstrating exceptional dedication and serving as a role model for his fellow naval personnel, he completed a remarkable walk of 586.1 km in 7 days, 11 hours, 17 minutes, and 14 seconds. This extraordinary feat set a new world record, marking a significant achievement for both the Navy and the nation. In recognition of his accomplishment, the Commander of the Navy awarded him the Letter of Commendation.

The occasion was also attended by Director General Services, Rear Admiral Priyal Vithanage and Director Sports, Commodore Varuna Ferdinandusz.
