Rear Admiral Saman Perera honoured in send-off salute

Relinquishing duties to which he was committed for nearly 35 years, Rear Admiral Saman Perera retired from naval service today (13th July 2024).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, flanked by the Navy’s Board of Management, extended warm wishes to the retiring naval officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Saman Perera was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions, before fellow naval officers making their formal farewells to the outgoing senior officer, appreciative of his service. Subsequently, he was sent off in a motorcade through the portals of Navy Headquarters, amidst cheers.

Rear Admiral Saman Perera joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 19th intake in 1989. Throughout his distinguished career, the senior officer has occupied various commanding roles at both establishments and ships. Among some of the other key appointments he held; General Manager Malima Hospitality Service, Acting Naval Officer in Charge (Welisara), Deputy Director Naval Personnel, Commandant SLNS Shiksha, Director Naval Personnel, Deputy Area Commander Northern Naval Command and Port Facility Security Officer (Kankasanthurei), Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Director General Personnel, Commander Southern Naval Area, Commandant Volunteer Naval Force and Commander Western Naval Area stood prominent.
