Chief of Defence Forces, Seychelles calls on Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy
The Chief of Defence Forces, Seychelles Brigadier Michael Rosette who is currently on an official visit to Sri Lanka, called on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters today (15th July 2024).
Brigadier Michael Rosette arrived in Sri Lanka on the morning of 14th July on an eight-day (08) official visit. At the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), he was warmly received by Naval Officer in Charge (Welisara) Commodore Prasad Jayasinghe.
Today (15th July) the Chief of Defence Forces, Seychelles visited the Navy Headquarters in Colombo, where he was accorded a formal and elegant Guard of Honour by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions. Subsequently, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera warmly welcomed the visiting dignitary from the Seychelles and introduced him to the Navy’s Board of Management.
After exchange of pleasantries, the top military brass discussed several matters important to maritime security. The cordial discussion drew to a close with an exchange of mementoes to mark the goodwill and camaraderie. Having posed for a group photograph with the Commander of the Navy and the Board of Management, Brigadier Michael Rosette left his remarks in the Visitor’s Book at the office of Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.
Moreover, the visiting Chief of Defence Forces was briefed about the operations of Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo as well as Sri Lanka Navy’s operations in the Indian Ocean Region.
As part of this official visit, Brigadier Michael Rosette is scheduled to call on Hon. President, Hon. State Minister of Defence, Secretary of Defence and Chief of Defence Staff. In addition, he will also visit the Eastern Naval Command and Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee. Further, the Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces will also attend several programmes organised by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Official visits of this nature play a crucial role in enhancing friendly foreign relations and cooperation among maritime stakeholders dedicated to the security of the Indian Ocean region. These efforts significantly contribute to creating a stable Indian Ocean region, essential for developing a sustainable blue economy centered around ocean resources.
Concluding his eight-day (08) official visit, Brigadier Michael Rosette is expected to depart the island on 21st July.
